I spend a lot of my life in the mountains. Skiing and ski-touring in winter, climbing and hiking isn summer, triathlon year's round, and a camera in the bag for all of it.

Skiing
Skiing is my greatest passion, and I’m a qualified ski instructor. Whether carving on the slopes, freeriding in the backcountry, or ski touring through untouched terrain, I feel most at home in the mountains. Teaching and guiding others therefore came naturally as it allows me to share the passion that has shaped so much of my life.

Mountains
Mountaineering and ski touring have taken me from the Alps around Liechtenstein, Austria, and Northern Italy to more remote destinations such as Japan, Norway, and Georgia. In the mountains, every decision matters: choosing a route, reading a weather window, assessing conditions, or knowing when to turn around. You rarely have complete information, and the consequences are real. I’ve learned to stay calm, assess risk, and make deliberate decisions when uncertainty is unavoidable.

Triathlon
Swim. Bike. Run. I discovered endurance sport only recently, but somehow I feel like I’ve been preparing for it my whole life. The determination, discipline, commitment to long training days, and willingness to embrace physical and mental suffering were already there. There is no feeling quite like crossing the finish line with a personal best, knowing you left absolutely everything in the tank.

Photography
Landscape and sports photography is my creative outlet beyond work. It allows me to slow down, observe, and capture the beauty of the places, people, and moments that make the journey worthwhile.

Same appeal, different mountain.
I am not going to claim that ski touring makes me a better data scientist. But the things I choose to do with my free time have an obvious shape to them: hard constraints, measurable outcomes, honest feedback, and no way to talk your way out of a bad result.
Teaching skiing in particular has been unexpectedly useful at work. Explaining something technical to someone who is cold, slightly scared and not interested in the theory is excellent practice for explaining a model to a production team on a Tuesday morning.
The rest is just that I like being outside.
